Panicked commuters watch in horror as puffa jacket-clad attacker pursues victim through packed London transport hub in broad daylight rampage
THIS is the heart-stopping moment a desperate passenger was forced to use station signs and a magazine rack as makeshift shields while being chased through Earl’s Court Underground station by a violent attacker.
Shocking footage captured the terrifying broad daylight attack that left commuters scrambling for safety at one of London’s busiest transport hubs yesterday afternoon.
The dramatic scenes unfolded at around 1.40pm when cops were scrambled to the Grade II listed station following reports that both staff and passengers had been attacked.
Magazine Rack Defence in Desperate Chase
In scenes more fitting of an action movie than a Monday afternoon commute, the fleeing victim can be seen desperately grabbing anything within reach to defend himself during the horror attack.
The shocking footage shows the terrified man using station signs and even a magazine rack to fend off his pursuer as stunned passengers look on in disbelief.
Dressed in a large puffa jacket, the attacker relentlessly chased his target through the packed station, showing no signs of backing down despite being in full view of dozens of witnesses.
Wild Goose Chase Through Historic Station
The pursuit turned into a chaotic game of cat and mouse as the victim sprinted up stairs leading to the exit, only to come racing back down moments later with his attacker still in hot pursuit.
The pair continued their violent tussle, barging past shocked onlookers as the wild chase carried on through the building. Terrified passengers pressed themselves against walls and ducked into shops to avoid being caught up in the mayhem.
Earl’s Court – which serves both the District and Piccadilly lines and sits in Zones 1 and 2 – is typically packed with tourists and commuters at that time of day, making the brazen attack all the more shocking.
Hero Public Step In
In an extraordinary display of public bravery, members of the public had detained the attacker before police even arrived on scene – a testament to Londoners’ refusal to stand by while violence unfolds.
A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of three counts of common assault and taken into custody, where he remains as investigations continue.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that station staff had also been targeted in the rampage, though the extent of any injuries wasn’t immediately clear.
Not a Watch Theft Gone Wrong
In a statement, the Met was quick to squash speculation about the motive, saying: “Although enquiries are ongoing, there is currently no suggestion that the incident was related to an attempted watch theft.”
Watch thefts have plagued London’s transport network in recent months, with organised gangs targeting commuters wearing expensive timepieces. But this appears to be something altogether different.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
British Transport Police are now urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward to help piece together exactly what sparked the violent confrontation.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 334 of 23 June,” a spokesman said.
The dramatic incident comes as London grapples with rising concerns about safety on public transport, with many calling for increased police presence at major stations.
Historic Station’s Dark Day
Earl’s Court station, which first opened in 1871 and features the Underground’s first-ever escalators installed in 1911, has seen its fair share of history – but rarely anything quite as dramatic as yesterday’s scenes.
The station, which underwent a £10 million restoration and was once converted into a munitions factory during World War II, is normally known for its architectural significance rather than violent confrontations.
As investigations continue, commuters are left wondering what could have sparked such a brazen daylight attack at one of the capital’s most iconic transport hubs.
One thing’s for certain – those who witnessed yesterday’s terrifying chase won’t forget it in a hurry. And neither will the brave members of the public who stepped in when it mattered most.

Do we have any information on the nationality of the assailant? Could it be terror related?
