Police in Majorca have arrested a bouncer and a sex worker following allegations of sexual assault made by an 18-year-old German tourist who claims he was drugged and attacked at a brothel in the popular resort area of S’Arenal.

The alleged victim told authorities he woke up naked and confused in a room at the establishment on Pare Bartomeu Salvà Street, commonly known as “Ham Street”, after returning to dispute a €450 charge on his bank account.

Both suspects appeared before a judge on Friday and denied all charges against them, with the investigation continuing as police examine conflicting accounts of the incident that allegedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to the police report, the German teenager had visited the brothel on Wednesday night with friends for drinks only, without purchasing any sexual services. Upon discovering the substantial unauthorised charge to his account, he returned alone at approximately 3am to demand a refund.

The report emphasised that the man went back to ask for his money back, and did not want or intend to have sex with any woman,” according to police sources familiar with the case.

The complainant alleges the doorman invited him inside, after which he began feeling dizzy and was pushed into a room with a female employee. He claims to have lost consciousness shortly afterwards.

Upon regaining consciousness, the 18-year-old told police he found himself naked alongside the unclothed woman, with a used condom visible on the bed. The bouncer then allegedly entered the room and ordered him to leave, saying “Get dressed and go.”

The young man immediately sought medical attention at Son Espases Hospital before filing a formal complaint with local police. He underwent a medical examination to document potential evidence of the alleged assault.

In his statement to police, the tourist insisted he had not consumed any alcohol at the brothel but suspected he may have been drugged at another establishment earlier in the evening before the alleged incident occurred.

Local authorities launched an immediate investigation following receipt of the complaint. Within hours, officers arrested both the female sex worker and the bouncer accused of facilitating the alleged assault.

The defendants presented a markedly different version of events during questioning. According to their account, the German tourist had initially sought to purchase sexual services from the woman during his first visit to the brothel.

They claim he agreed to pay €450 for these services via bank transfer, but the payment was not immediately received. The establishment’s manager allegedly informed him he could not proceed until the transaction was confirmed.

The accused maintain that when the young man returned in the early morning hours, it was to complete the transaction he had initiated earlier, not to dispute an unauthorised charge.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about tourist safety in Majorca’s nightlife districts, where establishments operate under Spain’s complex prostitution laws. Whilst prostitution itself is not illegal in Spain, related activities such as pimping and running brothels exist in a legal grey area.

S’Arenal, located on Majorca’s south coast, is a popular destination for young tourists, particularly from Germany and the UK. The area’s Pare Bartomeu Salvà Street houses numerous adult entertainment venues that operate openly.

The German consulate has been informed of the case, though officials declined to comment on the ongoing investigation. Consular staff typically provide support to nationals involved in legal proceedings abroad.

Local police continue to investigate the allegations, including reviewing any available CCTV footage from the area and interviewing potential witnesses who may have been in the vicinity during the relevant timeframe.

The case underscores the vulnerability of young tourists in unfamiliar environments, particularly when alcohol or other substances may impair judgement. Tourist safety organisations regularly advise visitors to remain in groups and exercise caution in nightlife areas.

Spanish authorities have not indicated when formal charges might be filed, as investigators continue gathering evidence and taking statements from all parties involved in the incident.

The investigation remains active as police work to establish a clear timeline of events and determine whether criminal charges are warranted against either or both of the arrested individuals.

Medical professionals at Son Espases Hospital followed standard protocols for suspected sexual assault cases, though specific details of the examination remain confidential as part of the ongoing investigation.

The case has drawn attention to the broader issues surrounding tourist safety and the regulation of adult entertainment venues in popular Spanish resort destinations, where thousands of young visitors arrive each summer season.
