British Teenager Dies in Third-Floor Fall at Ibiza Rocks Hotel

A 19-year-old British tourist has died after falling from the third floor of Ibiza Rocks Hotel in the early hours of the morning, marking the second fatal incident at the venue in just two weeks.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene after plunging from the hotel shortly after midnight, despite paramedics’ efforts to revive him at the four-star establishment in San Antonio.

Two ambulances rushed to the scene but medical personnel were unable to save the young man, who was confirmed to be a British national by the Civil Guard this morning.

Spanish authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, which occurred at the same hotel where Scottish tourist Evan Thomson, 26, lost his life on 7 July.

The latest tragedy has renewed concerns about safety at the adults-only party hotel, which has witnessed multiple fatal falls in recent years, prompting calls from grieving families for enhanced security measures.

Mr Thomson, from Aberdeen, had been celebrating his birthday with friends when he fell from a sixth-floor balcony at approximately 6am. Hotel staff and paramedics attempted to help him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following Thomson’s death, the Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic confirmed: “Regrettably and despite all the efforts of medical personnel, the patient who fell yesterday in San Antonio has died due to the severity of his injuries.

Thomson’s friends have publicly criticised the hotel’s handling of the incident, claiming they were kept in an office for over an hour without information before being told of his death.

Blair Robertson, 25, who was with Thomson in Ibiza, alleged that cleaning crews began pressure-washing blood from the scene just 90 minutes after his friend was found. “We heard the jet washes from the ground cleaning the area where Evan died and it had only been 90 minutes or so since he was found,” Robertson stated.

That was the worst thing for us to hear – how fast they tried to get things back to normal,” he added, claiming the group was moved to another hotel by 9am.

Robertson described the hotel’s response as showing “a disregard of life”, stating: “They just wanted us out – and to start the party again. It was hard hearing the cleaners coming into the room in the morning, as though nothing had happened.

Thomson’s sister Teila raised concerns about safety standards at the venue, noting that Ibiza’s party reputation should warrant higher precautions. “Pray nobody else suffers. And, once it did happen, the hotel’s response was just completely heartbreaking; almost as if it never happened,” she said.

The family highlighted that the balcony wall stood at approximately three feet high, reaching only to Thomson’s hip as he measured 6ft 3in. They suggested additional glass panels could prevent future tragedies.

Thomson’s mother, Lel Kellighan, posted on social media: “I’m absolutely heartbroken to write and tell you all, earlier this week my son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away.

The hotel has a troubled history of fatal incidents. In 2014, 25-year-old Luke Rhoden fell from a first-floor balcony and died, with a UK coroner later ruling he was mistreated by police after the fall.

Four years later, Welsh tourist Jack Holland, 22, suffered serious head injuries after falling from height at the hotel. In April this year, a 19-year-old Italian woman died after falling from the fourth floor whilst attempting to access her room via a balcony.

James Shand, one of Thomson’s friends, questioned why the venue remained operational given its history. “This isn’t the first incident in which someone has died there. If something like this happened in the UK, the place would get shut down,” he stated.

Thomson’s girlfriend, Remi Duncan, 23, expressed dismay at the hotel’s response, particularly noting that Ibiza Rocks posted social media content advertising upcoming events within hours of the tragedy.

In response to the earlier incident, an Ibiza Rocks spokesperson said: “This is a truly tragic and extremely sad situation. Our senior management team onsite did everything possible to help the police with their investigation into events leading up to Evan’s death.

The hotel stated they provided “constant support from our customer services manager to Evan’s friends”, including 24-hour access to senior management and permission to share contact details with the family.

We are deeply saddened by Evan’s death and our thoughts continue to be with his family and friends at this truly difficult time,” the spokesperson added.

The Civil Guard continues to investigate both incidents, with authorities yet to release further details about the latest victim or the circumstances of the fall.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed they are supporting the families and liaising with Spanish authorities regarding both cases.

San Antonio, located on Ibiza’s north-west coast, remains a popular destination for young British tourists, particularly those visiting the island’s renowned party scene.
