Police confirm no ongoing risk to public as major incident unfolds in Maguiresbridge

Two people have died and two others are seriously injured following a shooting incident in County Fermanagh this morning.

The incident occurred in the Drummeer Road area of Maguiresbridge, with emergency services, including the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, responding to a 999 call from a property. Police have confirmed there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the Drummeer Road remains closed and urged motorists to avoid the area.

Emergency Response

Multiple emergency services attended the scene on Drummeer Road after the alarm was raised this morning. The Air Ambulance was among the units responding to what local sources described as a major incident.

The PSNI issued an initial statement saying: “The Drummeer Road, Maguiresbridge, is currently closed to road users. Please be aware that this may lead to delays on the A4 Belfast Road.”

Police confirmed at 11am that they had nothing further to add at that time and said an update would be issued “in due course”.

Domestic Nature Suspected

Sources close to the investigation indicate that a firearm was involved in the incident, which is understood to be of a domestic nature.

The road remains sealed off with a significant police presence maintaining a cordon around the scene. Officers are expected to remain at the location throughout the day as investigations continue.

Local reports suggest the two injured individuals have been taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries, though their current condition has not been confirmed.

Political Response

Local MLA Deborah Erskine urged the public not to speculate about the incident whilst police carry out their work.

“There is an ongoing incident on the Drummeer Road, Maguiresbridge. It is currently closed to road users. Please be aware that this may lead to delays on the A4 Belfast Road,” the DUP representative said.

I have been speaking to police this morning. An update will follow in due course. Please do not speculate or provide commentary below, while police carry out their work.

Rural Location

Drummeer Road is located in a rural area near Maguiresbridge, a village situated approximately 13 miles from Enniskillen in County Fermanagh.

The area consists predominantly of semi-detached housing and is described as a quiet residential location. Maguiresbridge Primary School is located approximately 540 yards from parts of Drummeer Road.

The A4 Belfast Road, a major route through the county, runs close to the incident location, prompting police warnings about potential traffic delays.

Investigation Ongoing

As this is a developing story, police have released limited information whilst their investigation continues. The PSNI has not yet confirmed the identities of those involved or provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The force emphasised that whilst the incident is serious, there is no ongoing threat to members of the public in the area.

This represents the first major firearms incident in Fermanagh this year. The county, which borders the Republic of Ireland, has generally experienced low levels of violent crime in recent years following the end of the Troubles.

Officers from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team are expected to lead the inquiry, with support from local policing units based in Enniskillen.

Community Impact

The incident has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit rural community of Maguiresbridge and the wider Fermanagh area.

Local residents have been advised to follow police instructions and avoid the Drummeer Road area whilst emergency services complete their work at the scene.

The PSNI is expected to provide further updates as their investigation progresses. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
