British Transport Police have released a photograph of a man they wish to speak with in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a Jubilee Line train in London.

The incident occurred on June 9, just before midnight, when a woman boarded a train at North Greenwich station and sat next to a man who attempted to engage her in conversation before allegedly sexually assaulting her.

According to police, both the victim and the suspect alighted at Baker Street station, where the man approached the woman again before eventually leaving the station.

Appeal for Information

Officers from British Transport Police have issued a public appeal as part of their investigation into the late-night incident on the London Underground service.

Detectives are investigating reports of a sexual assault that occurred on a Jubilee Line train,” a spokesperson for the force confirmed. The release of the CCTV image represents a significant step in the investigation as officers seek to identify the individual involved.

The British Transport Police believe the man pictured in the released photograph may have information that could assist their investigation into the alleged assault.

Incident Details

The sequence of events unfolded when the victim boarded the Jubilee Line service at North Greenwich station shortly before midnight on June 9. After taking a seat, she found herself next to a man who began attempting to strike up conversation with her.

Police state that during the journey, the man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman whilst on the train. The situation continued when both individuals disembarked at Baker Street station, one of London’s major transport hubs.

At Baker Street, the suspect reportedly approached the victim once more before finally departing the station. The victim was left shaken by the encounter, which prompted the subsequent police investigation.

Public Transport Safety Concerns

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about passenger safety on London’s transport network, particularly during late-night services. The Jubilee Line, which runs through central London connecting Stratford in the east to Stanmore in the northwest, is one of the busiest lines on the Underground network.

North Greenwich station, where the victim boarded, serves the O2 Arena and surrounding areas, whilst Baker Street is a major interchange station in central London, serving multiple Underground lines.

How to Report Information

British Transport Police are urging anyone who recognises the man in the photograph or who has any information about the incident to come forward immediately.

Members of the public can contact BTP through several channels:

  • Text 61016
  • Call 0800 40 50 40
  • Quote reference 13 of 10 June when providing information

For those who wish to remain anonymous, information can also be provided through Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

Ongoing Investigation

The release of the CCTV image forms part of British Transport Police’s wider efforts to tackle sexual offences on the rail network. The force regularly conducts operations targeting sexual harassment and assault on public transport, working to ensure passenger safety across London’s extensive transport system.

Officers are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who was travelling on the Jubilee Line between North Greenwich and Baker Street around midnight on June 9.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and pursue leads in their efforts to identify the suspect and bring the case to a conclusion.

Support for Victims

British Transport Police emphasise that support is available for anyone who has experienced sexual assault or harassment on public transport. The force operates a dedicated text service (61016) which allows passengers to discreetly report incidents whilst still on board trains or at stations.

Victims of sexual offences can also access support through various specialist services, with officers trained to handle such sensitive cases with appropriate care and confidentiality.

As the investigation continues, police stress the importance of public assistance in identifying the man pictured and bringing those responsible for sexual offences on public transport to justice.
