Irish police are investigating what they believe to be a triple murder following the discovery of three bodies at a house in rural County Louth this morning.

Emergency services were called to a residential property in Tallanstown, approximately 11 kilometres southwest of Dundalk, where they discovered the bodies of two men and a woman. All three victims are understood to be from the same family and are believed to have sustained fatal injuries in a violent attack.

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows police to hold suspects for up to 24 hours. It is understood that medical assistance is being sought for the arrested man.

The small village of Tallanstown, situated on the banks of the River Glyde between Dundalk and Ardee on the R171 road, has been left reeling by the tragedy. The area around the property has been sealed off as forensic investigators begin their work.

Investigation Underway

Armed gardaí have been deployed to the scene, with the State Pathologist’s Office and the Garda Technical Bureau notified to conduct thorough examinations. The bodies of the three victims remain at the scene pending forensic examination.

A Garda spokesperson issued a brief statement: “Gardaí are currently responding to a serious ongoing incident in Co Louth this morning, 29 September 2025. As this is in its early stages, no further information is available at this time.”

However, sources close to the investigation have indicated that detectives believe this to be a “self-contained incident” with no wider threat to public safety. Gardaí are not currently searching for any other suspects in connection with the deaths.

Rural Community in Shock

Tallanstown, winner of the 2010 Tidy Towns competition, is a quiet village in the barony of Ardee with a population of just over 1,000 residents. Located approximately seven miles west-southwest of Dundalk on the road from Drogheda to Monaghan, the village sits in an agricultural area known for its historic estates and farmland.

The village lies north of Ardee and is part of a rural community that has traditionally been regarded as peaceful and close-knit. Local sources describe the area as quiet, with the incident sending shockwaves through the surrounding townlands.
