In a significant demonstration of unity, King Charles, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner made a joint visit to Newquay, Cornwall, today. Their itinerary included three key locations that highlight sustainable development and community engagement.
Newquay Orchard
The trio began their tour at Newquay Orchard, a community space dedicated to education and vocational training. The orchard boasts a market garden, makerspace, and a community building equipped with a café and coworking facilities. In 2024, it produced 6.8 tonnes of food, benefiting both local residents and health initiatives. Additionally, 42 young individuals participated in the Growing Futures education program, while 59 adults completed courses focusing on green skills. The orchard’s consistent excellence has been recognized with the Green Flag Award for the fourth consecutive year.
Nansledan School
The delegation’s next stop was Nansledan School, a primary institution emphasizing sustainability in its curriculum. Opened in September 2019 and officially inaugurated by King Charles in March 2020, the school currently educates 361 pupils across fourteen classrooms, with a capacity for 420 students. The curriculum focuses on active discovery and experiential learning, particularly in STEM, health, and sports education. During their visit, the leaders observed a physical education session and engaged with students in their classrooms.
Kew An Lergh Development
Concluding their visit, the leaders toured the Kew An Lergh development, meeting with local business owners and community members at the newly established Nansledan Community Centre. This development hosts a variety of enterprises, including Sabzi Café, Naturally Learning nursery school, and The Loft Yoga studio. Discussions centered on the integration of sustainable development principles and the promotion of mixed-use spaces that support local enterprises while fostering community connections.
This joint appearance underscores a shared commitment to sustainable development and community-focused initiatives, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing environmental and social challenges.
