Fort Stewart Army Base on Lockdown After Active Shooter Incident – Multiple Casualties Reported

Fort Stewart Army base in Georgia is on total lockdown after an active shooter incident that has left multiple casualties, military officials have confirmed.

The shooting occurred in the 2nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team area at approximately 11:04 EST (16:04 GMT), prompting immediate lockdown procedures across the entire installation including Wright and Evans Army Airfield.

“Fort Stewart is in a lockdown status due to an active shooter incident,” the base announced via Facebook. “Casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing.”

LATEST UPDATES:

• Area schools locked down – Liberty County Schools including Button Gwinnett Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary and Snelson Golden Middle School under “soft lockdown”

• All base gates closed – No traffic allowed in or out of the installation

Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, Fort Stewart Police spokesperson, confirmed to media: “We are currently assessing the situation, but we can confirm an active shooter.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said he was “saddened by today’s tragedy” and remained in “close contact with law enforcement on the ground.”

“We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers,” Governor Kemp stated.

Congressman Buddy Carter, whose district includes Fort Stewart, said: “Please join me in prayers for the casualties, their families, and the brave law enforcement officers working to protect our community.”

Fort Stewart, located 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River, spanning over 280,000 acres. It serves as home to the US Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.
