Dutch politician Geert Wilders has revealed he has received multiple death threats from Muslim individuals in recent days, sharing screenshots of the threatening messages on social media platform X as concerns grow over his personal security.

In a post published 13 hours ago, Wilders wrote: “Many muslims sent me messages the last few days that they are going kill me. Violence instead of reason. Exactly my point. Losers.” The Party for Freedom (PVV) leader, who has lived under round-the-clock police protection for two decades, accompanied his message with disturbing evidence of the threats.

The screenshots shared by Wilders included images of firearms and explicit threats. One message showed a photograph of a handgun alongside text reading “I’m on my way to Holland, I’m gonna cut off your head and hang”. Another screenshot displayed what appeared to be an assault rifle with accompanying threatening messages targeting the Dutch politician.

Among the disturbing messages revealed were threats stating “Wilders, like Jews, is vermin that must be exterminated”, “Zionist dogs like you will be shot”, and “We will cut your head soon”. One particularly graphic threat showed an image of a firearm with the message “I’m on my way to Holland, I’m gonna cut off your head and hang”. Other messages included “One day, your head will be cut off and hanged in the famous square of Pakistan” and threats promising imminent violence against the Dutch politician.

Wilders, whose party emerged as the largest in the Netherlands following elections in November 2023, has been a persistent target of death threats since he began his vocal opposition to what he describes as the “Islamisation” of Europe. The politician has required constant security protection since 2004, following the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh by an Islamic extremist.

The latest threats, posted on X (formerly Twitter) approximately 13 hours ago, prompted Wilders to characterise those making the threats as “losers” who resort to “violence instead of reason”. His defiant response underscores his refusal to be silenced despite the escalating security risks he faces daily.

The Dutch politician told media outlets that whilst he routinely conveys such threats to police, prosecution often proves challenging. With all the threats, hundreds of times a year, sometimes they can find the sender and prosecute, but most of the times they can’t or the authorities of the country of the sender will not cooperate with the Dutch authorities,” Wilders has previously explained.

In past responses to death threats, Wilders has been equally defiant, stating: “Go to hell and join Muhammad there. I will never stop speaking the truth. Fatwas and thousands of death threats won’t stop me.” His latest post continues this pattern of refusing to be intimidated by those who threaten violence against him.

The latest threats come amid heightened tensions following Wilders’ continued criticism of Islamic ideology and his party’s strong electoral performance. In July 2025, he responded to another death threat with characteristic defiance, maintaining his position despite the personal risks involved.

Wilders has previously faced numerous assassination plots and threats over his political positions. In 2018, Dutch police arrested a 26-year-old man at The Hague’s main railway station who had posted a video on Facebook declaring his intention to assassinate Wilders over a planned Prophet Muhammad cartoon competition.

The cartoon contest, which Wilders ultimately cancelled due to security concerns, had sparked widespread protests and death threats. A Pakistani cricketer had even offered a bounty for Wilders’ murder, adding to fears of targeted violence either in the Netherlands or against Western targets.

In September 2024, a Dutch court convicted two Pakistani religious and political leaders in their absence for issuing calls to their followers to murder Wilders. The trial proceeded without Pakistani cooperation, highlighting the international dimension of the threats against the Dutch politician.

Security experts note that Wilders faces one of the most severe threat levels of any European politician. He has been forced to live in safe houses, travel in armoured vehicles, and maintain constant police protection for the past twenty years. His movements are restricted, and he has described his existence as similar to that of “a political prisoner”.

The politician’s security concerns have intensified since his party’s electoral success. The PVV won 37 of the 150 seats in the Dutch parliament in November 2023, making it the largest party and positioning Wilders as a key figure in Dutch politics, though he does not serve as prime minister in the current coalition government.

Wilders has consistently maintained that his criticism targets Islamic ideology rather than individual Muslims. In his writings and speeches, he has described Islam as “not just another religion but a political ideology which aims to dominate the world”. This stance has made him a polarising figure both within the Netherlands and internationally.

The European Conservative recently reported that Wilders had received “yet another death threat” in July 2025, confirming the ongoing nature of the security risks he faces. The Party for Freedom leader’s situation has drawn international attention, with supporters viewing him as a defender of free speech whilst critics accuse him of inflammatory rhetoric.

Dutch authorities have not publicly commented on the latest threats, maintaining their standard practice of not discussing specific security arrangements for protected individuals. However, the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTB) continues to assess threats against Wilders as serious and credible.

The situation reflects broader tensions in European societies regarding Islam, immigration, and freedom of expression. Wilders’ case has become emblematic of these debates, with his supporters arguing he represents legitimate concerns about cultural change whilst opponents claim his rhetoric contributes to division and hatred.

As Wilders continues to share evidence of the threats against him, questions persist about the balance between freedom of political expression and community cohesion in multicultural European societies. The Dutch politician shows no signs of moderating his stance, despite the severe personal cost of living under constant threat.

The ongoing death threats against Wilders serve as a stark reminder of the volatile intersection between politics, religion, and security in contemporary Europe, where political discourse on sensitive topics can result in genuine threats to life and liberty.
