Teen found in critical condition on Leeds Road in Allerton Bywater died six days later after taking MDMA

A 15-year-old girl has tragically died after collapsing at a bus stop, with a man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and supplying Class A drugs.

The teenager was rushed to hospital on June 6 after collapsing at a bus stop on Leeds Road in Allerton Bywater, a village near Castleford in West Yorkshire. The girl sadly passed away six days after being admitted to hospital.

Police have confirmed that a 29-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, June 14, on suspicion of manslaughter and supplying a Class A drug, but has since been released on bail with conditions.

Initial tests have revealed that the teenager died after consuming MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy.

POLICE STATEMENT

In a statement, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “A man has been arrested following the death of a teenage girl in a suspected drugs-related incident in Leeds.

The 29-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of manslaughter and supplying a Class A drug. He remains in custody.

At 6.59pm on Friday, June 6, police were contacted by hospital staff reporting concerns in relation to a 15-year-old girl who had been brought in by ambulance after collapsing at a bus stop in Leeds Road, Allerton Bywater.

The girl remained in a critical condition and died in hospital on Thursday, June 12.

ONGOING INVESTIGATION

Officers from Leeds District Safeguarding have been carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The force spokesperson added: “They are supporting the girl’s family and ask that people show consideration and respect their privacy at what is clearly a very difficult time for them.

DRUG WARNING

Police have issued a stark warning about the dangers of illegal drugs following the teenager’s death.

Initial tests have shown the drug involved to be MDMA and there is no suggestion of any wider risks arising from this incident, other than the inherent dangers of all illegal drugs,” the spokesperson said.

The area around the bus stop was cordoned off following the incident as police conducted their investigation.

COMMUNITY SHOCK

The tragic death has sent shockwaves through the local community in Allerton Bywater, a village situated between Leeds and Castleford.

The teenager, whose name has not been officially released, was found at the bus stop on the evening of Friday, June 6, after emergency services were alerted by concerned hospital staff at 6:59pm.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance but despite medical efforts, she passed away on Thursday, June 12 – six days after the incident.

BAIL CONDITIONS

The arrested man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was questioned by detectives before being released on bail with conditions while the investigation continues.

The case highlights the ongoing dangers of illegal drug use among young people, with MDMA continuing to claim lives despite repeated warnings from authorities.
