19-Year-Old Charged After Stomping on Tributes to Slain Conservative Leader

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Phoenix on Sunday after he was caught on camera destroying a memorial to Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was assassinated at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

The incident, captured on video by news crews and bystanders, shows Ryder Corral walking across and stomping on flowers, balloons, and American flags that had been placed outside Turning Point USA headquarters in Arizona. Phoenix police charged Corral with criminal damage and disorderly conduct following the incident.

Confrontation Caught on Camera

The shocking footage shows Corral, dressed in a black t-shirt and blue jeans, making his way approximately 15 yards across the memorial site before being confronted by an older man wearing a white cap and light blue shirt. After what appeared to be a brief verbal exchange, the bystander grabbed Corral with both hands near his neck area and threw him to the ground.

Several other people, both men and women, quickly surrounded Corral and led him to police officers who had been stationed at the memorial site. Officers then pinned Corral against a wall and placed him in handcuffs before taking him to the local station for booking.

According to reports, Corral was wearing clothing similar to what Kirk’s alleged assassin wore at the time of the shooting, though the significance of this detail remains unclear.

Memorial Honors Fallen Conservative Leader

Hundreds of Kirk’s supporters had created the memorial outside Turning Point USA’s headquarters in Phoenix, where Kirk had been raising his family with his wife Erika and their two young children. The memorial had become a gathering place for mourners paying their respects to the 31-year-old co-founder of the conservative youth organization.

Kirk was fatally shot in the neck on September 10 while launching his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University in Utah. He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly after the shooting, which authorities have called a “political assassination.”

Investigation into Kirk’s Murder Continues

The main suspect in Kirk’s assassination, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested after his father turned him in to authorities. According to Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Robinson confessed to his father about carrying out the shooting, who then informed a family friend who contacted law enforcement on Thursday night.

Robinson is currently being held in Utah County jail’s Special Housing Unit under 24-hour monitoring. Utah County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Raymond Ormond confirmed that Robinson is under evaluation by mental health professionals to assess whether he is suicidal, following reports that he told his father he would “rather die than hand himself in.

The FBI had released images showing a suspect wearing a National Disabled Veterans Foundation t-shirt with an eagle and American flag design walking away from the university campus shortly after the shooting.

Motive Remains Under Investigation

While the motive for Kirk’s assassination has not been officially established, Governor Cox stated that Robinson’s family and acquaintances described him as being “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” though Cox noted that formal charging documents would provide more detailed information. Charges are expected to be formally filed on Tuesday.

Cox also confirmed reports that Robinson had discussed the shooting on Discord following the incident, initially joking about a “doppelganger” being responsible before eventually admitting to being the shooter. “All we can confirm is that those conversations definitely were happening, and they did not believe it was actually him,” Cox said. “It was all joking until he admitted that it actually was him.”

Family Vows to Continue Kirk’s Legacy

Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, spoke publicly for the first time on Saturday, vowing to continue her husband’s work and turn her “widow’s tears into a battle cry.” She revealed the heartbreaking detail of telling their three-year-old daughter that “Daddy is on a work trip with Jesus” after returning home without Kirk.

The funeral for Charlie Kirk is scheduled for September 21 and will be attended by President Trump, who ordered flags to be flown at half-staff through September 14 in Kirk’s honor. Trump called Kirk’s death “a direct assault on America” and vowed his administration would find “each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity.”

Community in Mourning

The vandalism of Kirk’s memorial has added another layer of pain to an already grieving community. The incident highlights the intense political tensions surrounding Kirk’s assassination and the broader concerns about political violence in America.

Utah Valley University remains closed through the weekend following the shooting, with classes and campus events suspended. The university expressed shock and sadness at Kirk’s death, stating, “Our hearts go out to his family.”

As the investigation continues and the community mourns, the memorial outside Turning Point USA headquarters has been restored by supporters, who continue to leave flowers, flags, and messages of condolence for the Kirk family.

This is a developing story. Details about the investigation and legal proceedings will be updated as more information becomes available.
