Cops have issued an urgent CCTV appeal after a woman was allegedly sexually attacked in Birmingham city centre, with detectives releasing an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.
The attack took place at an outlet in Broad Street in Birmingham at around 2pm on Saturday, June 14, said West Midlands Police. The force has now issued an image of a man officers would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
He is pictured wearing a beige polo top with a beige, white and navy blue striped collar. The man also has blonde hair with a short back and sides. Officers have carried out CCTV enquiries but have been unable to identify the man, prompting the public appeal.
Broad Street is a major thoroughfare and popular nightspot centre in Birmingham’s Westside district. The infamous party street, known as Birmingham’s “Golden Mile”, is in the heart of the city’s pubs, clubs and restaurants area, hosting venues including Walkabout, O’Neill’s, Popworld, Rosies Bar, and numerous cocktail bars.
The entertainment district, which has been Birmingham’s nightlife flagship since the 1970s, attracts thousands of visitors each week to its bars, restaurants, casinos and the Cineworld cinema complex. The area is also home to the International Convention Centre and major business headquarters for banks including Lloyds, HSBC and Deutsche Bank.
In issuing the appeal, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We want to speak to this man after a woman was sexually assaulted in Birmingham. It happened at a venue in Broad Street at around 2pm on 14 June.”
“Anyone with information can contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, and quote 20/274257/25.”
The force acknowledged that whilst the CCTV image “isn’t the clearest”, they believe someone will have information to help identify the man. Detectives are urging anyone who was in the Broad Street area on the afternoon of June 14 and may have witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.
Sexual assaults have significant impacts on their victims, and West Midlands Police has invested in specialist teams to support victims throughout the investigation process. The force has Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid embedded within their teams, working alongside officers at certain stations.
According to crime statistics, Birmingham recorded 57,842 reports of violence and sexual offences during 2025, resulting in a crime rate of 45 reports per 1,000 residents. However, recent figures show total crime across the West Midlands has dropped by almost 20,000 offences (over 6 per cent) in the last year alone.
The force has also reported nearly 2,000 fewer victims of domestic abuse and significant reductions in other crime categories. Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “The continued success to cut crime across the West Midlands is a fantastic message to be able to deliver.
As part of their Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy, West Midlands Police has committed to tackling 11 strands of violence against women, including protecting women in public spaces and pursuing perpetrators using both criminal and civil opportunities.
The force is inviting victim-survivors of rape and sexual assault to take part in an anonymous survey about their experiences with police, aiming to improve the service provided to victims. “We acknowledge we don’t always get it right and your feedback will help us make meaningful changes,” the force stated.
Anyone with information about the Broad Street incident is urged to contact West Midlands Police immediately via their Live Chat service on the force website, by calling 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. When contacting police, witnesses should quote reference number 20/274257/25.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue their efforts to identify the man in the CCTV image and bring the perpetrator to justice.
