Teenager collapsed at West Yorkshire bus stop after taking MDMA and died despite desperate efforts by medics
A TEENAGE schoolgirl who fought for her life for six agonising days has died after taking the party drug MDMA, as a 29-year-old man faces manslaughter charges over her tragic death.
The 15-year-old victim collapsed at a bus stop on Leeds Road in Allerton Bywater, West Yorkshire, on the evening of June 6, sending shockwaves through the close-knit community.
Hospital staff contacted police at 6:59pm that night, reporting grave concerns about the teenager who had been rushed in by ambulance after being found unconscious at the roadside bus shelter.
Despite round-the-clock efforts by medical teams, the youngster remained in critical condition throughout her hospital ordeal before tragically losing her battle for life on June 12.
Dawn raid leads to arrest
In a dramatic development, detectives swooped on a suspect in the early hours of Saturday morning, June 14. The 29-year-old man, whose identity has not been released by authorities, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and supplying Class A drugs.
He remains in police custody while officers from Leeds District Safeguarding conduct extensive enquiries to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed: “A man has been arrested following the death of a teenage girl in a suspected drugs-related incident in Leeds.
Family’s devastating loss
The victim’s grieving family is being supported by specialist officers as they come to terms with their devastating loss.
Police have urged the public to respect the family’s privacy during what they described as “clearly a very difficult time for them.
Initial toxicology tests have confirmed the presence of MDMA – commonly known as ecstasy – in the teenager’s system, according to police sources.
Police warning over ‘inherent dangers’
In a stark warning to other young people, West Yorkshire Police emphasised the lethal risks associated with illegal drug use.
Initial tests have shown the drug involved to be MDMA and there is no suggestion of any wider risks arising from this incident, other than the inherent dangers of all illegal drugs,” a force spokesperson stated.
The tragedy has reignited concerns about the availability of MDMA and other party drugs to teenagers across the UK.
Community in shock
The incident has sent shockwaves through Allerton Bywater, a village near Castleford, where locals have expressed their horror at the young life lost.
The area around the Leeds Road bus stop where the teenager collapsed was cordoned off as forensic teams conducted their investigation.
MDMA’s deadly toll
The teenager’s death adds to the grim statistics surrounding MDMA-related fatalities among young people in Britain.
The synthetic drug, often sold in powder or pill form, can cause dangerous spikes in body temperature, seizures, and heart failure – even with a single dose.
Drug safety experts have repeatedly warned that users can never be certain of the strength or purity of illegal substances, making every use a potentially deadly gamble.
Investigation continues
Leeds District Safeguarding officers continue their painstaking investigation into how the teenager came to ingest the fatal substance.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.
The arrested man is expected to face further questioning as detectives work to establish the full chain of events that led to this preventable tragedy.
