Oldham’s Wembley hero Kian Harratt, 23, claims he ‘felt terrible’ but accuses victim of play-acting after shocking poolside attack caught on camera

The footballer who knocked a woman to the ground by hurling a chair at her face during a shameful Ibiza brawl has broken his silence – claiming his victim went “down a bit easy.”

Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt, 23, exclusively identified by MailOnline, launched into an extraordinary defence of his actions after shocking footage showed him throwing furniture at a middle-aged woman trying to break up a poolside fight.

Despite admitting he “felt terrible” about hitting the innocent bystander, the League Two player couldn’t resist suggesting she’d made a meal of it – while insisting he’d do it again to protect his mate from a “6’6 bully.”

The astonishing footage from the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio shows topless Harratt launching a white plastic chair across the pool area, striking the woman in the back of the head and sending her crashing to the ground.

‘I’d have felt even worse if my mate got beaten up’

In a rambling TikTok post attempting to justify his actions, Harratt claimed he was defending his 18-year-old friend who’d been punched and kicked by another holidaymaker.

A chair then got lobbed towards me so I picked the chair up and threw it back and it accidentally hit the woman who as you can see went down a bit easy,” the striker wrote, showing zero remorse for the innocent victim.

He added: “I was very apologetic and I felt terrible. But I’d have felt even worse if we left my mate to get badly beaten up while he’s trying to enjoy his holiday.”

The footballer’s mother Kathleen Duncan confirmed she was aware of the shocking video but refused to comment when contacted at her home.

The brawl that shocked holidaymakers

The chaos erupted on June 21 when tensions boiled over between Harratt’s group and other British tourists at the popular Ibiza hotel.

According to Brandon Watkins from Nuneaton, who was involved in the confrontation, Harratt’s crew had been “being nobs around the pool splashing people throwing balls at women.”

When challenged with “what are you looking at”, Watkins claims he “dropped” one of Harratt’s friends – sparking the chair-throwing mayhem.

“They then start throwing chairs because they couldn’t fight,” Watkins wrote on Facebook. “Everyone knows how slippy it is round a pool so stopping chairs hitting us I slip in the pool and that’s what went viral.”

‘Built like a brick’ – Harratt’s version of events

But Harratt painted a very different picture, claiming the other group’s ringleader was a massive bully who’d been harassing young couples.

He was 6,6 and built like a brick!” the footballer wrote. “He was swimming over to young couples while they’re all chilling and trying to make the lad feel uncomfortable flirting with their girls.”

According to Harratt, trouble started when his teenage mate playfully splashed the man, who then allegedly punched and kicked the youngster while he was down.

The striker even shared what he claimed was footage of his friend being attacked – though this couldn’t be independently verified.

From Wembley hero to Ibiza villain

The timing couldn’t be worse for Harratt, who just three weeks ago was the toast of Oldham after scoring the winning goal in extra-time of their 3-2 playoff final victory over Southend United at Wembley.

That strike secured the club’s return to League Two after years in non-league wilderness. But now fans are calling for his head.

“He just can’t help himself can he,” wrote one disgusted supporter. “I’ve defended him multiple times [and] even was happy when he scored the winner against Southend but you can’t be throwing chairs at women Kian.”

Another fumed: “I’ll be stunned if he plays for us this season. Embarrassment, no way for anybody to act – never mind someone in the public eye.”

A career marked by controversy

This is far from Harratt’s first brush with controversy. The Pontefract-born striker has a rap sheet that would make even the most hardened football bad boy blush.

Last year, while on loan at Fleetwood Town from Huddersfield, he was fined £1,000 by police after being caught poaching in North Yorkshire. He’d already been convicted of the same offence at a farm in East Yorkshire in 2022, copping an £830 fine plus costs.

But his most serious football-related punishment came when he was banned for four months and fined £3,200 for placing 484 bets on matches over three years – including 36 on his own team Huddersfield’s games.

‘Best holiday by a country mile’

Incredibly, despite the shocking scenes and public outcry, Harratt has been celebrating his Ibiza trip on social media.

The striker reposted the viral brawl video on his own TikTok account and shared multiple photos of himself partying with mates on the Spanish island.

One of his companions even tagged him in a post calling it the “best 5 days of my life” – while Harratt himself declared it the “best holiday I’ve been on by a country mile.”

The brawl ironically took place right next to a “Good Vibes Only” sign at the hotel, with the Jet2Holidays jingle playing in the background as chaos erupted.

Hotel breaks silence on shocking scenes

The Marco Vibra Ibiza hotel has now issued a statement claiming “no chairs were thrown at any guests” and suggesting the woman “got in the middle” trying to stop the fight.

According to Vibra Hotels, their security team ended the brawl in less than three minutes and the woman declined to file a police complaint, saying she was “okay.

“It really is a shame for us and for our teams to have to deal with this kind of issue, especially when people are supposed to come on holiday to enjoy and have fun,” a spokesperson said.

Fans demand action as club stays silent

The backlash has been swift and brutal, with supporters from multiple clubs united in their condemnation.

Seriously he should be banned from football. Who can defend him?” wrote one angry fan.

Another sarcastically dubbed him “Wembley hero and Ibiza chair throwing champion 2025.”

Even rival fans put aside their differences to slam Harratt, with one posting: “Huddersfield Town fans and Bradford City fans taking a break from slagging each other off, so they can both slag off Kian Harratt.

Oldham Athletic has so far refused to comment on the incident, leaving fans wondering if their playoff hero will ever pull on the shirt again.

Missed his flight home ‘because he overslept’

Adding insult to injury, Harratt’s mum revealed he’d even missed his flight back to Leeds – claiming he’d “overslept” after his wild holiday.

He was supposed to have landed in Leeds but he cancelled his flight because he missed it,” Kathleen Duncan said, adding that any comment would have to come through his agent.

She confirmed: “He will be back later this afternoon.”

Whether he’ll still have a job to come back to remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain – this Wembley hero’s reputation is now in tatters after his Ibiza chair-throwing shame.
