Horrific video footage has captured the moment a gunman opened fire inside a packed Birmingham nightclub, injuring three people and sending terrified revellers scrambling for safety in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The shocking incident unfolded at Mango nightclub on Bristol Street at approximately 3am on 20 September, with CCTV footage showing dancers fleeing the dancefloor as shots rang out seven seconds apart. The dramatic clip reveals the chaos that erupted as partygoers scattered in panic, desperately seeking cover from the gunfire.

West Midlands Police confirmed three people were injured in the shooting, with one man remaining hospitalised in a stable condition. A woman initially thought to have suffered a gunshot wound was discharged from hospital, with authorities now believing her injuries resulted from a fall during the pandemonium rather than from gunfire.

Police moved swiftly following the incident, arresting four suspects in connection with the shooting. A 32-year-old man was detained by officers at 9:30am on Saturday morning and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Three women, aged in their twenties and thirties, were subsequently arrested whilst travelling in a vehicle on the M6 motorway in Warwickshire.

All four suspects have been bailed pending further investigation as detectives work to piece together the events that led to the violent incident at the popular Birmingham venue.

Acting Chief Inspector Michael Clarke emphasised the severity of the situation and the urgent need for witnesses to come forward. “This happened in a busy nightclub, on one of the main roads out of Birmingham city centre. It’s vital that we hear from anybody who saw what happened or who may have captured it on dashcam as they went past,” he stated.

Clarke confirmed that whilst the investigation was progressing rapidly, with urgent enquiries leading to the arrests, police continue to work intensively to identify all individuals involved in the shooting. “Our investigation is moving rapidly, and urgent inquiries have led to the arrests of three people. But we continue to investigate as we identify everyone involved,” he explained.

The senior officer made a direct appeal to anyone present at the venue during the incident. “If you were in the club at the time and saw what happened, or recorded any footage from inside the venue, we need to hear from you urgently,” Clarke urged.

Mango nightclub remained closed on Sunday, 21 September, as forensic teams combed the scene for evidence. Officers are currently reviewing the nightclub’s licence following the serious incident, which could have implications for the venue’s future operations.

Detective Inspector Rachel Allen from the Major Crime Unit stressed the importance of gathering comprehensive witness testimony to build a complete picture of the night’s events. “We are building a clearer picture of what happened in the nightclub, and we are working flat-out to ensure we identify everyone who was involved,” she said.

DI Allen made a particular appeal for digital evidence from those present at the venue. “It’s really important that we hear from anyone who was inside the venue, or who may have taken any pictures or video,” she emphasised, noting that such material could prove crucial to the investigation.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through Birmingham’s nightlife community, raising concerns about safety in the city’s entertainment venues. The incident occurred in what should have been a safe space for weekend revellers enjoying a night out in one of Birmingham’s established nightspots.

West Midlands Police have established multiple channels for witnesses to provide information. Members of the public with relevant information are urged to contact police via 101, quoting log 561 of 20 September. For those wishing to remain anonymous, information can be provided through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The investigation remains active, with detectives pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motive behind the shooting and identify any additional suspects who may have been involved. Police are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of Bristol Street around 3am on Saturday morning and may have witnessed suspicious activity before or after the incident.

The violent episode has prompted discussions about security measures at Birmingham nightclubs and the need for enhanced safety protocols to protect patrons. Local authorities are expected to review licensing conditions for venues across the city in light of this serious incident.

As the investigation continues, the injured victims are receiving support whilst recovering from their ordeal. The man who remains hospitalised is said to be in stable condition, though the psychological impact on all those present during the shooting cannot be underestimated.

Police have assured the public that they are treating the investigation with the utmost priority, deploying significant resources to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. The Major Crime Unit’s involvement underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating this case.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact gun violence can have on communities and the importance of swift police action in response to such serious crimes. As Birmingham’s nightlife community grapples with the aftermath of this shocking event, the focus remains on supporting victims and ensuring justice is served.
