Police Investigation Launched

West Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the three-year-old’s body at a property in Leeds.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning. Police have not released details about the relationship between the woman and the child.

Homicide Team Leading Investigation

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are expected to be leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

A cordon is likely to have been put in place at the property for forensic examination as officers work to establish what happened.

The force has not yet released the exact location of the incident within Leeds or any further details about the arrested woman.

Community in Shock

The death of such a young child in these circumstances will undoubtedly send shockwaves through the local community in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police are expected to release further information as their investigation progresses.

Previous Child Deaths in Leeds

This latest tragedy follows other child death investigations in Leeds in recent years. In December 2023, a five-month-old baby girl died after being found in a serious condition in Woodhouse Moor, also known as Hyde Park.

In that case, the baby’s mother was arrested on suspicion of murder after contacting police herself to report the child was in a serious condition. The infant was taken to hospital but died shortly after.

Senior officers from West Yorkshire Police have previously emphasised that the death of a child in any circumstances is an extremely tragic incident that requires thorough investigation.

Police Appeal for Information

While West Yorkshire Police have not yet issued a formal appeal in this case, they typically ask for anyone with information about such incidents to come forward.

Members of the public who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area before police arrived are usually encouraged to contact the force.

West Yorkshire Police can be contacted on 101, or information can be provided via their online Live Chat facility. In cases where people wish to remain anonymous, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Investigation Continues

As the investigation continues, police will be working to establish the full circumstances of what led to the three-year-old girl’s death.

Post-mortem examinations are typically carried out in such cases to determine the cause of death, which will form a crucial part of the investigation.

The arrested woman is expected to be questioned by detectives as they piece together the events that led to this tragedy.

Further updates are anticipated from West Yorkshire Police as their investigation progresses.
