Police have launched an urgent appeal to find a missing 11-year-old boy who was last seen wearing a Nottingham Forest football kit and Crocs in the Basford area of Nottingham.

Byron was reported missing from northern Nottingham at around 11am on Saturday, August 16, sparking immediate concern from Nottinghamshire Police who say they are worried for the child’s safety.

The youngster was last seen wearing a distinctive navy and pink Nottingham Forest kit, black socks and a pair of Crocs when he disappeared from the Basford area. Officers believe he may have travelled to other parts of the city where he has known connections.

Description and Areas of Interest

Police have issued a detailed description of Byron to help members of the public identify him. He is described as being 5ft tall with a medium build and short brown hair. Officers noted that despite being just 11 years old, Byron looks older than his age.

Nottinghamshire Police said the boy has links to both the Bulwell and Radford areas of Nottingham, and are concentrating their search efforts across these neighbourhoods in northern Nottingham.

Basford, where Byron was last seen, is located in the northern part of Nottingham, approximately three miles from the city centre. The area neighbours both Bulwell to the north and is connected to Radford via main transport routes, making it possible for the youngster to have travelled between these familiar locations.

Police Growing Concerned

A statement from Nottinghamshire Police emphasised their growing concern for Byron’s welfare: “Have you seen missing Byron? We are concerned for his safety and urgently want to hear from anyone who has seen him.”

The force is asking residents across Nottingham, particularly those in the Basford, Bulwell and Radford areas, to check their gardens, sheds and any outbuildings where a child might seek shelter.

Local community groups and parents have been sharing the appeal across social media platforms, with many expressing their concern for the young boy’s safety. The distinctive Nottingham Forest kit he was wearing – described as navy and pink – should make him more recognisable to anyone who may have seen him.

How You Can Help

Police are urging anyone who sees Byron not to approach him in a way that might frighten him, but to immediately contact them with his location. Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital in bringing him home safely.

Members of the public who may have dashcam footage from the Basford, Bulwell or Radford areas from Saturday morning onwards are also being asked to review their recordings for any potential sightings of the boy.

Shop owners and staff in these areas are being asked to check their CCTV footage from Saturday, particularly around the time Byron went missing at 11am.

Contact Police Immediately

Anyone who has seen Byron or has any information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police immediately on 101, quoting incident number 244 of Saturday 16th August 2025.

In an emergency, or if you see Byron right now, please call 999 immediately.

The force stressed that time is of the essence in missing child cases and any delay in reporting potential sightings could hamper their search efforts.

Parents and guardians in the local area are also being asked to speak to their children in case they have any information about where Byron might have gone or if he had mentioned any plans to anyone.

Community Response

The local community has rallied to support the search effort, with residents organising informal search parties and distributing missing person posters featuring Byron’s description throughout the Basford, Bulwell and Radford areas.

Local councillors have also joined the appeal, using their social media platforms to share the police appeal and urging constituents to remain vigilant.

Youth centres and community facilities in the area have been alerted and asked to check their premises thoroughly, whilst local parks and recreation areas are being searched by both police and volunteers.

As the search continues, police are reminding the public that Byron is just 11 years old and may be frightened or confused. They emphasise the importance of approaching any potential sightings with care and contacting police immediately rather than attempting to detain the child.
