Budget carrier adds Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia and Seville connections with fares from £17.99

Wizz Air has unveiled five new routes from London Luton to Spain, set to commence on 29 March 2026, as the Hungarian ultra-low-cost carrier continues its expansion from its UK base.

The budget airline will launch services to Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia and Seville, with introductory fares starting at £17.99. The timing coincides with the Easter holiday period and the beginning of the summer travel season.

Barcelona will receive the highest frequency with ten weekly flights, whilst Madrid will operate daily. Valencia and Bilbao will each see five weekly services, with Seville scheduled for four flights per week.

Broader European Expansion

The Spanish routes form part of a wider network expansion from London Luton. Wizz Air has also announced three additional European destinations launching this autumn.

Daily services to Vienna and Rome Fiumicino will commence on 26 October 2025, priced from £21.99. Milan Malpensa will receive eleven weekly flights starting at £17.99.

All routes are now available for booking through the carrier’s website and mobile application. Madrid services carry a slightly higher starting fare of £20.99, whilst all other Spanish destinations begin at £17.99.

Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, Yvonne Moynihan, said: “We are excited to announce not one, but five new Spanish routes from our base at London Luton Airport. While some airlines stick to siestas, we’re bringing serious competition with our signature low fares and high-efficiency model.”

Treasure Hunt Promotion

To mark the announcement, Wizz Air organised a treasure hunt across London on Wednesday, offering participants the chance to win complimentary flights to the new Spanish destinations.

The airline posted clues on its Instagram account directing participants to three Spanish-themed locations throughout the capital where company representatives were waiting. The first person to reach each landmark could claim free flights.

We are proud to do things the Wizz way – always customer-first making travel accessible and affordable to all with unbeatable value flying brand new aircraft,” Moynihan added. We’re not just adding new routes – we’re here to shake up the status quo with more choice and flexibility, providing more opportunities to create unforgettable travel experiences. Let’s Wizz, Let’s Vamos.”

Airport Partnership Strengthens

Jonathan Rayner, Chief Commercial Officer at London Luton Airport, welcomed the expansion, highlighting the appeal of the five Spanish cities.

We are delighted to have secured these exciting new Wizz Air routes at London Luton Airport, providing our passengers with even greater choice and new opportunities to enjoy the delights of Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Seville and Valencia – five must-see Spanish cities,” Rayner said.

He added: “It’s great to see Wizz strengthening its commitment to LLA even further with the addition of multiple flights to Milan, Rome and Vienna each week. The continued and rising demand for city break destinations has been clear to see this year and these eye-catching additions to our departure boards build on the wealth of fantastic options already available from LLA.

Growing UK Presence

The announcement comes as Wizz Air continues to expand its UK operations under Moynihan’s leadership. The Irish lawyer, who joined Wizz Air in July 2022 as Corporate Officer before being promoted to managing director of the UK division in July 2025, has overseen significant growth at the Luton base.

Wizz Air UK was established in 2017 following the collapse of Monarch Airlines, allowing the carrier to secure valuable landing slots at London Luton. The subsidiary operates with British-registered aircraft and has become a key player at the airport.

According to aviation data, Wizz Air carried more than 7.2 million passengers to and from Spanish airports in 2024 through its various subsidiaries, demonstrating the significance of the Spanish market for the carrier.

Competitive Landscape

The new routes will see Wizz Air competing directly with other budget carriers on popular Spanish routes from London. The airline’s ultra-low-cost model, which offers basic fares with additional charges for extras such as seat selection and cabin baggage, has proven successful in attracting price-conscious travellers.

Luton Airport has seen steady growth in recent years, with approval granted to increase annual passenger capacity from 18 million to 19 million. The airport’s owner, Luton Rising, has also applied to expand capacity to 32 million by the early 2040s.

The catchment area for London Luton stretches from North London to the East Midlands, with regular rail and bus connections enhancing accessibility for passengers across the region.

Fleet and Sustainability

Wizz Air operates one of Europe’s youngest fleets, consisting primarily of Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. The carrier has positioned itself as “Europe’s greenest ultra-low cost airline”, citing its modern, fuel-efficient aircraft.

The airline has been recognised by CAPA (Centre for Aviation) as the world’s most environmentally sustainable airline for two consecutive years, based on carbon disclosure metrics.

With over 190 destinations across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, Wizz Air continues to expand its network whilst maintaining its focus on low fares and operational efficiency.

The new Spanish routes represent a significant addition to Wizz Air’s London Luton network, offering British holidaymakers more affordable options for reaching popular Spanish destinations from spring 2026.
